About the Cell

The Professional Development Cell at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute deal with wide variety of specialized training, formal education, or advanced professional learning intended to help the officers, staff and employees of the Government of Meghalaya. It aims is to improve their professional knowledge, competencies, skills, and effectiveness and the learning process that could help them to earn or maintain the professional credentials that are required in the workplace. Various Training Programmes conducted by Professional Development Cell helps to build and maintain morale of staff members, and to increase their efficiency in the Organization.

Variety of approaches are used in training and sessions to Professional Development Programmes which include consultation, coaching, mentoring, case study, knowledge sharing, presentation technique, reflective supervision and technical assistance.

Programmes:

Personal Development & Stress Management:

The objective of the training is to develop a set of characteristics and traits which contribute to the overall personality of a person, which covers mainly the six key personal development skills that include communication skills, analytical skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, decision making skills, and ethics and integrity.

The programme also covers the other important personality traits, such as how to develop the right Attitude towards work and people, proper delegation of work on Time to gain the maximum value in minimum time, and how to effectively handle and manage Change personally and professionally.

The other part of the programme covers the Stress Management Techniques. Stress is expected to be encountered either at personal or professional level, but it all depends on how we tackle it. Through Stress Management programme, the aim is to make the individual realize the effect of stress in one’s performance and behaviour, and how to effectively handle stress by trying to identify the sources of stress and how to limit them, to connect with others to improve their relationships, to make time for fun and relaxation activities, and to maintain work life balance which is the most important aspect that helps to ease stress.

Communication & Presentation Skills:

Communication is fundamental to the existence and survival of humans as well as to an organization. Through this programme, participants were able to learn the concept of communication and its importance for the success of any organization especially in a Public/Government set up.

To communicate is to share or exchange of information and this may sound very simple, but in reality communication is the most complex process because of its barrier, like the skills of the communicator, attitude of the listener, knowledge on the topic, relationships between the sender and receiver and many more. This training will enable the participants to understand the barriers of communication and to effectively counter for smooth functioning in the organization, it also establish their responsibilities, and strengthen Boss-Subordinate relations through effective organizational communication and to empower the participants to become an effective communicator.

Public speaking or speaking to a group is one of the top ten fears experience by human, the aim of this programme is to overcome that fear and to gain confidence in delivering presentations. Individual and group presentations were given on topics to develop the skills and knowledge to be an effective presenter. Sessions on how to develop an effective Power Point Presentation which is required in today’s presentation were covered to make one’s aware of the rules of PPT and how to develop one’s own personal style in effective presentation.

Emotional & Social Intelligence:

Emotional Intelligence has become a well-known and desired term by managers and owners of any organization. It impacts many different aspects of daily life, such as the way you behave and the way you interact with others at work. The programme is designed to explore the social and interpersonal intelligence and relationships, and the importance of emotions that could affect the individual’s performance and contribution towards success of the organization.

Through this training, Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence competencies were discussed to learn the four key domains i.e. Self-awareness, Self-management, Social awareness, and Relationship management that make the people outstanding performers in the workplace. Group/Team activities and Experience sharing were engaged in the sessions to help participants to emotionally connect with each other, to handle emotions in respect to relationships with other and why emotional and social intelligence matters in the workplace.

Urban Planning and Management:

With inclusion of Meghalaya in the Smart City Project, it is very important to understand the fascinating insights into the history and likely future directions of Urban Planning and Management in the state of Meghalaya. The programme will help the officers of the state to know the trends and how the future will unfold in the state and to arrive at a vision that needs to be understood, and of the dynamics of various components of the city and the level of interventions required to be made to achieve that vision.

The programme will highlight various issues and challenges face by urban areas in the state and to develop a Master Plan to address those issues and challenges and to improve State’s Urban conditions. The programme also covers the best practices to improve environment sustainability in the state and clearly define the roles and responsibilities to develop a mechanism that acts as a backbone to build a city.

Youth Development:

Youth play a vital role in development of the state, and Youth Development programme at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute offers the youth of the state something a place to learn the skills and ideas for a better future. Programme is designed in such a way that it covers the major aspect of personality development required for the youth to showcase in the future.

Sessions like leadership skills, communication skills, attitude management interpersonal skills and many more were covered to make the youth become more competence and knowledgeable of the subject matter. Career Guidance and Life Skills training to coach and mentor the youth, and to empower the youth to enable to cope with life challenges and changes and to be able to make some important career decisions.

Induction Training Programme:

This Intensive Training Programme is for the newly recruited government functionaries of Meghalaya State Government, is designed to develop generic and domain specific competencies in cutting edge level functionaries for strengthening capabilities to improve the public service delivery mechanism.

The Cell comprises of Shri. Heslington H. L. Khyriem, Asstt Director (Professional Development Cell), MATI and Kum. Banse Ch. Sangma, LDA, MATI.
